Inanna and Ebih (Self – Portrait)

mounting foam, analog photography

2022

During the process of making a self-portrait, I observed the parallel between human inability to control their anger associated with venting the anger on others with the Sumerian poem Inanna and Ebih, in which Inanna, the goddess of love and war, fights with mountain Ebih because the mountain didn’t bow down to her – didn’t show respect to her.

The formal side of making the bust had a therapeutic effect on me. I tried to create my likeness, my shell, the Inanna within me to put this part of my personality into a form so I could observe it and try to get it under control so I would no longer fight with Ebih.
